A: My hometown is Dominion, N.S. I’m now located in Victoria, B.C.
Q: What program did you take at ºù«Ӱҵ? When did you graduate?
A: I took the Sustainable Building Technology Diploma (formerly known as Sustainable Construction Management Technology Diploma) at the Penticton Campus and graduated in 2020.
Q: What is your current position?
A: Project Manager, Method Engineering - Energy division
Q: Why did you choose your program at ºù«Ӱҵ? How does it relate to what you’re doing now?
A: I chose SBT because I had a deep interest and had seen the opportunities in sustainable construction. What I have learned in the program has played a major role in my position as Project Manager for Method Engineering. The tools given to me as a student have allowed me to support Method while creating a new energy division in the company. Today, my workdays consist of consulting single family, multi-family, and commercial building clients on sustainable construction practices.
Q: What was one of your most meaningful memories during your time at ºù«Ӱҵ?
A: The most meaningful memories during my time at ºù«Ӱҵ was time spent with fellow classmates playing foosball and basketball.
Q: What do you think has been the biggest turning point for your career success?
A: Taking a chance to go back to school and studying something I was interested in. There are many unknowns when entering a niche field, but the program has set me up for many different opportunities. Since I have graduated from the course, I have continued with professional development and still have many more opportunities to look forward to since the field is continuously evolving.
Q: What advice would you pass on to current/future students?
A: Keep an open mind when you are moving through the program, there will be many different avenues following graduation. Also, take the time to enjoy yourself while you are studying, the time passes by quick. If you are anything like me, you will soon miss the time shared with teachers and classmates.
Q: When you’re not working, what are you doing?
A: When not working, I spend my time hiking in nature, taking yoga and martial arts classes, and spending time with my friends and family.
